Prologue
ICB – Blood is Thicker than Water
“Some roots run so deep that they shape not only who we become, but what we stand for.”
A Legacy Rooted in Education and Purpose
The year 1966 stands as a cornerstone in the chronicles of education in Pakistan. It was the year that saw the dawn of Islamabad Model School (IMS) — a visionary institution designed to nurture future leaders of intellect, integrity, and imagination.
From its earliest days, IMS became a cradle of excellence, cultivating generations who would distinguish themselves in governance, security, law, healthcare, engineering, aeronautics, information technology, literature, debating, finance, music, sports, and the arts.
It was, and remains, a place where knowledge found its voice and ambition found its wings.
A Family Bond Forged with IMS
Fate, it seems, had written my story alongside that of the institution. I too was born in 1966, in Dhaka (then East Pakistan) — the same year my father, the Late Sir Muhammad Subhanullah, was selected through a rigorous national process to serve as Senior Teacher of Geography at IMS.
His appointment was not merely an employment; it was the beginning of a legacy, a lifelong partnership between our family and an institution destined to inspire the nation’s brightest minds.
A Childhood Shaped by Mentorship and Purpose
Growing up within the living heart of IMS was a privilege few experience. The school was more than classrooms and corridors — it was a community, a family bound by purpose.
I was raised among dedicated teachers, their families, and the ever-smiling staff who kept the institution alive with warmth and discipline.
The playground echoed with laughter, while the staff room hummed with intellect and debate. I learned early that education was not confined to textbooks; it thrived in conversations, mentorship, and in the silent example of those who taught with passion.
Lessons That Last a Lifetime
Under the ever-attentive eyes of my mentors, I lived a childhood of both expectation and encouragement. Every action mattered; every shortcoming was noticed — yet every mistake was met not with reproach, but with guidance.
My teachers became my compass. They taught me that accountability is not a burden, but a blessing; that being held to high standards is the greatest form of respect.
Slowly, what once felt like scrutiny transformed into strength. Confidence replaced hesitation, and resilience became second nature.
Growing with the Institution
As the years passed, I realized that I was not merely studying at IMS — I was growing with it.
Its evolution mirrored my own journey from a curious child to a man shaped by purpose. The school’s ethos — discipline, humility, perseverance — became woven into my very being.
I carry those lessons still:
True leadership begins with service; integrity outweighs ambition; and excellence demands not comfort, but consistency.
A Lifelong Bond with ICB
Today, as I look back, I see ICB not just as my alma mater but as my extended family — a source of pride, strength, and unbreakable belonging.
The corridors that once echoed with youthful laughter now whisper stories of generations who walked before and after me, all carrying the same indelible mark of this institution.
Indeed, blood is thicker than water — and the lifeblood of ICB continues to flow through me.
It fuels my commitment to growth, my reverence for knowledge, and my enduring belief that education, when rooted in compassion and character, can transform not only individuals but entire generations.
The Anthem That Lives On
This enduring bond with ICB has blossomed into an unparalleled lifelong relationship, one that continues to inspire and rejuvenate my spirit.
Even today, I feel the same freshness and pride that once filled our hearts each morning — especially when the echoes of our college anthem rose at the close of assembly, reminding us of who we were, and who we were meant to become.
The Original School Anthem (1966–1971)

✨ A Gift of Wisdom from Headmistress Madam Shuja Qazi
Among the many memories I carry from Islamabad College for Boys, this one is perhaps the closest to my heart. I am honoured to preserve a handwritten manuscript by Headmistress Madam Shuja Qazi, whose wisdom, discipline, and warmth shaped countless young minds, including mine.
Holding this page feels like holding a piece of ICB’s golden era. Every stroke of her pen reminds me of the time when teachers didn’t just teach… they transformed us. This manuscript is not just writing, it is a symbol of trust, guidance, and the deep bond between a devoted educator and her student.
By sharing this personal treasure, I hope to show future ICBians what true mentorship looked like. The legacy of ICB isn’t only found in classrooms and photographs, it lives in the handwritten words, memories, and timeless values passed down with love and sincerity.
