Sir Ch. Irshad M. Khan (Late)

A Legend, A Mentor, A Pillar of ICB
(1932 – 2025)

There are few names in the history of Islamabad College for Boys (ICB) that echo with such reverence, respect, and admiration as Sir Ch. Irshad M. Khan. He was not just a teacher or a principal—he was the very foundation upon which the spirit of ICB was built. One of the earliest educators to join the institution, Sir Irshad dedicated the prime of his life to shaping its academic culture, nurturing its students, and establishing its reputation as a premier educational institution.

A Foundational Force at ICB

Joining Islamabad Model School for Boys G-6/3 (ICB) in 1966, Sir Irshad brought with him a rich academic background and teaching experience from across Punjab. Having previously served at Islamia High School in Multan and Thill School in Mangla, he was already a seasoned educator by the time he stepped into the heart of Islamabad’s emerging educational landscape.

From that moment onward, he became a cornerstone of ICB’s growth. His presence in the early days of the institution was not just impactful—it was transformative. As one of the earliest teachers, he helped lay the groundwork for the school’s structure, discipline, and academic excellence. Later, as Vice Principal and eventually Principal, he continued to serve with unwavering dedication, inspiring generations of students and educators alike.

An Administrator Par Excellence

Sir Irshad was a rare combination of wisdom, humility, and administrative brilliance. His leadership was marked by clarity, fairness, and foresight. Whether it was managing the school’s daily affairs or dealing with complex academic challenges, his command over institutional management was exceptional. He led not with authority, but with example—and in doing so, he earned the respect and love of his staff and students.

He also held the distinction of being the Founder Principal of I.M.S.B., G-10/4, further proving his commitment to spreading quality education across the capital.

A Teacher Who Remembered Every Name

Perhaps the most astonishing and heartwarming part of Sir Irshad’s legacy was his deep, personal connection with every student. Even into his final years, Sir Irshad was known to recall the names, strengths, and stories of countless students who had once walked the halls of ICB. His phenomenal memory, matched only by his affection, made every student feel seen, valued, and remembered.

Until his peaceful passing at the age of 94, he remained a living archive of ICB’s legacy—a teacher who truly never forgot the young minds he once guided.

A Guide, A Mentor, A Father Figure

Sir Irshad was more than a teacher—he was a mentor, a counsellor, and for many, a father figure. His door was always open, his advice always rooted in values, and his heart always focused on the moral and intellectual growth of his students. He was the kind of mentor who shaped not just academic excellence, but character and conviction.

The True Face of ICB’s Glory

To speak of ICB’s golden years is to speak of Sir Ch. Irshad M. Khan. He was the embodiment of its discipline, its academic strength, and its moral core. His dedication continues to echo through the classrooms, corridors, and hearts of those who had the privilege to know him.

His story is not just one of a remarkable career—it is the story of a life devoted to education, to nation-building, and to shaping future leaders. His legacy is not written in books but in the lives he touched and the generations he empowered.
