Sir Ghalib Raza Gillani

Urdu Teacher

Sir Ghalib Raza Gillani

Educationist | Principal | Mentor | Leader of International Institutions

Few teachers leave such a deep and lasting mark on the hearts of their students as Sir Ghalib Raza did. To generations of ICBians, he was not just a teacher — he was an institution in himself. His presence in the classrooms and on the grounds of the Islamabad College for Boys (ICB) continues to live in the memories of those fortunate enough to have studied under him.

Urdu Teacher – The Master of Expression

When it came to Urdu, Sir Ghalib Raza was nothing short of a maestro. His command over the language was exceptional — rich, graceful, and profound. Every lesson he delivered felt like poetry in motion.
Students often recall how the entire class would be mesmerized by his eloquence and depth of understanding. The way he dissected a verse or explained the essence of a prose passage could turn even an ordinary classroom into a world of imagination and wisdom.

His use of Urdu Muhawarahs (idioms) was legendary — each perfectly placed, each adding flavor and clarity to his teaching. It wasn’t just the subject he taught; it was the love of the language that he instilled in his students. To this day, many of his pupils credit their strong command of Urdu and refined expression to the magical influence of Sir Ghalib Raza.

Mentor – A Guide Beyond the Classroom

But Sir Ghalib taught far more than grammar and literature. He was a mentor in the truest sense. He believed that education was incomplete without character, discipline, and purpose.
In his calm yet powerful way, he shaped minds to think beyond the pages of textbooks — to understand life, responsibility, and integrity. He would often say that one’s attitude and discipline determine success more than mere academic brilliance.
Under his mentorship, students learned how to be better professionals, better human beings, and better citizens. His life lessons, often shared through stories and simple words of wisdom, became guiding principles for countless ICBians in their later years.

Physical Training Coach – Spirit, Strength, and Dedication

Apart from his excellence in the classroom, Sir Ghalib Raza was also the heart and soul behind ICB’s Physical Training (PT) displays on Annual Day.
Every year, he would train over 600 students for the grand PT performance — a feat that demanded not just skill but tremendous dedication. His passion was infectious; his energy boundless.
He approached PT rehearsals with the precision and discipline of a military trainer, yet with the warmth of a caring teacher. The students, though exhausted at times, would feel immense pride in presenting the final display under his direction. Many still recall those days fondly — the sweat, the discipline, and the thrill of achieving perfection — all driven by the spirit of Sir Ghalib Raza.
For him, it wasn’t merely an event. It was a reflection of unity, teamwork, and excellence — values he deeply cherished.

Still Remembered by ICBians

Though Sir Ghalib Raza left Islamabad College for Boys in 1982, his legacy never left the hearts of his students.
Even after more than four decades, ICBians remember him with deep affection, respect, and nostalgia. His name evokes smiles, stories, and heartfelt admiration — a testament to the kind of teacher and human being he was.

Sir Ghalib Raza wasn’t just part of ICB’s history — he helped shape it. His influence continues to echo in the memories and lives of those who had the honor of learning from him.
