Vice Admiral Bilgrami was commissioned as a Sub Lieutenant in 1989 after graduating from the Pakistan Naval Academy, where he earned the prestigious Sword of Honour—a recognition reserved for the best all-round cadet. His first appointment was in the Operations Branch in July 1989, marking the beginning of a remarkable naval career.

  • Commander Karachi Fleet

  • Commander Pakistan Fleet

  • Chief Staff Officer to the Commander Pakistan Fleet

  • Principal Secretary to the Chief of the Naval Staff

His exceptional command skills have played a vital role in strengthening Pakistan’s naval capabilities and operational readiness.

In addition to his naval command, Vice Admiral Bilgrami has also made significant contributions in strategic and policymaking roles:

  • Director, National Defence University, Islamabad

  • Director Naval Development Plans & Operations

  • Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Operational Plans)
